Post-Christmas Madness
So I asked eight of my friends to suggest games for videos, and here are the results:
OMGMARTY – Back to the Future [NES]
Why is it the greatest movies make the shittiest video games? Thanks for nothing Jeff.
OMGTEENAGEMUTANTNINJATURTLES – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles [NES]
As much as I loved the Ninja Turtles as a kid, this game caused me so much childhood sadness. Hope your happy Mike.
OMGJAMES – Goldeneye 007 [Nintendo 64]
A sophisticated game for true gentlemen. Keep it classy Panguan.
OMGFOX – Star Fox 64 [Nintendo 64]
USE THE BOOST TO GET THROUGH! USE THE BRAKE! DO A BARREL ROLL! I CAN’T LET YOU DO THAT STAR FOX! ONLY I HAVE THE BRAINS TO RULE LYLATT! YOU”RE BECOMING MORE LIKE YOUR FATHER! Sorry the video isn’t better Noah.
OMGFRED? – Battle Hunter [Playstation]
I still have no idea what was happening. Can’t comprehend what you see in it Shaun.
OMG WARRIORS OF LIGHT GAIDEN – Final Fantasy Tactics [Playstation]
Decided to combine a great game with some interesting characters. I still refuse to equip any flails Shawn.
OMGFRANK – Dead Rising [Xbox 360]
Frank West is a war-covering globetrotter. Levi I hope you find the video FAAAAANTASTIC!
OMGHUNK2 BLOOD LUST – Resident Evil 4 [Gamecube]
The return of the man that started it all. Garrett, where’s ya curlay moustache?
Day 11 – Super Smash Bros.
The Super Smash Bros series is probably Nintendo’s greatest multiplayer achievement. Actually there’s no ‘probably’ about it, it just is. The original N64 is right up there with Goldeneye as one of my most-played-with-3-friends-in-the-same-room games. Melee and Brawl are pretty much the only games still played on their respective consoles, and I’m amazed we haven’t seen a DS iteration yet. Maybe on the 3DS . . .
Day 10 – Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is a cool game. It’s basically an updated version of Ocarina of Time, which pretty much set the standard for Zelda’s since it was released. I really like the dual gameplay with switching back and forth from the wolf form, and the visuals and music gives the game an epic feel.
This game also introduces one of the most interesting Zelda characters, Midna. It’s a shame we’ll probably never see her in another game. She can ride on my back and talk down to me anytime.
Day 9 – The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker is a damn beautiful game. It’s very colorful and vibrant art style really set it apart from other games of the time. Of course this immediately made everyone mad because HEAVEN FORBID a game be stylish and colorful. That wouldn’t be mature for mature gamers such as ourselves. People are fucking stupid.
Anyway, I have never finished this game, which is a damn shame, because once completed you can play through the game again in your ballin’ Lobster Pajamas. I wish I had a pair in real life.
Day 8 – The Minish Cap
I’ve never played The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap any further than what you see in this video. It seems like a fun Zelda game though, so after the 12 days are over I may have to go back and complete it.
Also I use this video to unwind and chillaxe after the insanity that was Day 7.
Day 7 – Soul Calibur 2
I’m no too big into the Soul Calibur series. In fact, Soul Calibur 2 is the only installment I have played. From what I hear it’s supposed to be a super deep battle where only the strong survive. I have experienced none of this.
Day 6 – Majora’s Mask
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is weird. That is all.
Also here’s a big ol’ protip for you:
DO NOT ATTEMPT THE FINAL BOSS FIGHT WITHOUT THE FIERCE DEITY’S MASK! I’M SERIOUS!
Day 5 – Oracle of Seaons
The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons is probably the best game released exclusively on the GameBoy Color. I remember the christmas I got it, and having to choose between it and Oracle of Ages. I believe I picked seasons because it had a red box as opposed to Ages’ blue box (the same choice I made when the original Pokemon games were released). I am very glad I made this decision, because of the two games I vastly prefer Seasons.
If you are a fan of the series and haven’t had a chance to play through this one, I highly suggest you check it out.
Day 4 – Ocarina of Time
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is an amazing game. While not my absolute favorite Zelda title, it ranks up there pretty high. I remember the year I got the game on Christmas Eve, and even though I had a terrible sinus headache and should have gone to sleep, I still stayed up for hours playing.
On that first magical play through, I was enthralled by the games many lore filled cut-scenes. It was fascinating to learn the origin of Hyrule and the beginnings of the legend.
On ever subsequent play through however, I was quite distraught at having to watch these unskippable cut-scenes again and again. I believe making your story sequences in a game unskippable is one of the highest offences you can commit in game design.
Other than that the game hain’t bad though.
Could be a bit gooder, but it certainly hain’t bad.
Day 3 – Link’s Awakening
Link’s Awaking is an amazing game, easily the best title out of the entire GameBoy’s library. I spent quite a few hours with my old original green and yellow screen GameBoy (under a lamp) playing the shit out of this game. Even though looking back the island world it takes place on isn’t that big, at the time it felt huge.
For this video I use the DX version that was released after the GameBoy Color came out. In addition to making everything pretty and colorful it adds a new dungeon. Unless you play the game yourself, you’ll never see it, because it certainly isn’t featured in this video. Maybe you should try playing the game yourself sometime, you lazy ass.
EDITORS NOTE: Here is the intro cinematic I had to cut from the video:
